With tickets for the Liverpool leg of their debut tour having sold out in a matter of hours, it seems One Direction fever has hit the city.

Famed for being a bunch of cute young singers put together to form a handsome and successful boyband on X Factor, the group have captured the hearts and hormones of teenage girls around the country.

“After months of fevered anticipation and levels of hysteria not witnessed for decades, One Direction, the UK's most exciting new pop band, will be coming to EchoTwo at Echo Arena Liverpool on Sunday 15th January, 2012,” said the Echo Arena website.

One Direction's success on the 2010 edition of X Factor saw them come in third place behind Liverpool's Rebecca Ferguson and winner Matt Cardle. But show supremo Simon Cowell saw potential and signed them up to his record label, Syco.

Since X Factor they have gone on to release a book, One Direction: Forever Young (Our Official X Factor Story), as well as becoming brand ambassadors for Pokémon Black and White.

This was all before they released their debut single, 'What Makes You Beautiful', in September, which went straight to No1 in the UK chart, becoming the fastest selling single of the year so far.

The band, consisting of members Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson, are set to release their debut album in November, while their UK tour begins in Watford on 18th December.
